About

With an artist and an engineer for parents, Marc Dunham built his first electric guitar in high school under the mentorship of Ed Schaefer, renowned archtop luthier and owner of Schaefer Guitars. After a hiatus for higher education (Marc holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University) and day job pursuits, Marc began building again as a Pandemic Project in 2020 and established Dr. D. Guitars LLC in 2021 (Dunham Guitars as of 2022).

All emphasis at Dunham Guitars is aimed at one-of-a-kind beautiful-sounding/-looking instruments each with its own spirit and character. I specialize in exotic and figured woods, high quality assembly and electronics, and thoughtful inlay design to create an attention-commanding instrument on stage or on display.

A custom guitar order with Dunham Guitars comes with a crash course in guitar design and tonewoods. I love seeing my customers learn about their guitar as it is being built and creating a truly custom statement piece to suit the individual as an extension of the player themselves.
